In this tutorial we show how to force closed captions to appear on your YouTube videos, both for videos that play on YouTube and for those that are embedded on a website.
Tutorial
Submitting your Media for Captioning:
Submit your YouTube video for captioning. Once the caption file has been associated with your YouTube video, follow the steps below to force captions to appear on the player.
Forcing Closed Captions to appear on YouTube:
- Log into your YouTube account, open the Video Manager, and click Edit -> Info & Settings for the relevant video. Under Basic info -> tags, add yt:cc=on, and click Save changes:
- If you are going to embed the video on a website, you'll also need to edit the embed code. So, open the video on a separate tab, click Share (under the video), and open the Embed section. Copy the embed code and add ?cc_load_policy=1 at the end of the URL, e.g.:
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/zECTqthONjo?cc_load_policy=1" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Note that if you have uploaded captions files in multiple languages, the captions that appear on YouTube will be designated by the final user's language preferences.
