Closed Captioning your files with CaptionSync allows you to choose your English Spelling Variant. This article shows how.
Many English words are spelled slightly differently in different countries. Our transcribers are all trained to use US spellings. If you wish to have a non-US spelling in your English transcripts, CaptionSync can convert the spellings according to your regional preference. You just need to set your regional preference on the Language/Content page, under the Settings tab:
We've reviewed all existing CaptionSync accounts and set that preference for our users based in Canada, Australia, or the UK. If you're based in one of those regions you'll see a News Item in your account informing you that we've set the default preference to the relevant regional spelling. If you prefer to get US spellings, just follow the instructions above to set your account back to US Spelling.
So, if you're based in UK, you'll see this News Item:
If you're based in Canada, you'll see this News Item:
Finally, if you're based in Australia, you'll see this News Item:
You can change this setting in the Language Settings page at any time; your changes will become effective for all future submissions after you make the change.
Important Notes:
- If you wish to send guidance to the transcriber, you can use our Guidance for Transcriber or Persistent Notes to Transcriber features.
- If you wish to restrict your submission(s) to transcribers with expertise in a specific area, you can use our Transcriber Preference feature.
