Asian Characters in QuickTime

If you're trying to embed the QT.TXT caption file into a MOV via QuickTime Pro following these steps, and you see unexpected Asian characters like so:

Then you need to follow the directions a little bit closer:

• #1 Download the .QT.TXT file directly from our site (some mail programs may induce CR/LF characters inadvertently into to the attachments):

• #2 Quick Look (Mac) or open with TextEdit or NotePad to verify there are no strange characters in the QT.TXT:

• #3 Open the QT.TXT with QuickTime Pro (AKA QuickTime 7)

• #4 You should see the the captions appear with the proper character set:

• #5 This is the important part. While still in QuickTime 7 copy the text track. i.e. Select All (Cmd-A or Ctrl-A on PC) and Copy (Cmd-C or Ctrl-C on PC). DO NOT COPY FROM NOTEPAD OR TEXTEDIT.
