Tutorial
This tutorial describes how to set up Echo360 ALP with CaptionSync. For Legacy Echo360 please see our other tutorial instead.
Note that our Echo ALP integration is only available to Echo Administrator users.
One-Time Set Up:
- Log into CaptionSync, go to Settings -> Account Features, select Enable my account for Echo360 ALP Integration from the drop-down menu, and click Request Account Feature. You will receive an email updating you about the feature status. Note that if you don't see Echo360 ALP on the "Account Feature to Add" drop-down menu, it's already enabled.
- Log back into CaptionSync, go to Settings -> Echo360 ALP, and copy the Shared Secret.
- Log into your Echo360 account, go to Settings -> Configurations, and select Closed captioning, from the left navigation column. Select AST from the Captioning Provider drop-down menu and enter appropriate values in the form fields. In the Customer Secret field, paste in the shared secret copied in the previous step.
The Customer Id is your AST username, the same you use to log into your CaptionSync account.
- Select the Default Language and Turnaround Time settings. Note that these values will be applied to all requests submitted via Echo360 ALP, and override any default values set up in your CaptionSync account.
- Click Save to save these settings as your default setup. Your setup is complete and you can now submit your lectures for captioning.
With Echo360 there are two different scenarios for captioning: when you have an existing recording and would like to request captioning for it; or, when you have a series of recordings that you want to be automatically captioned as they are captured.
Requesting Captioning for an existing Recording:
- Log into Echo360 and select Captures, in the main menu.
- Click on the video you wish to have captioned: this will launch the player.
- In the lower right-hand corner, next to Captions, click Add -> Send to Process -> OK. The entry will then show a status of Processing, next to Captions.
Note: If you need results within 24 hours or less, you will need to select your preferred turnaround time under Settings -> Configurations -> Closed captioning.
Requesting Captioning for a Series of Recordings:
- Log into Echo360 and select Courses, in the main menu.
- Expand the course you want to caption, to view all the sections. For each of the sections to be captioned, click the calendar icon to view its current capture schedule. If there is no schedule, click New Capture.
- Under Capture Settings, enable the Closed Captioning slider. Click Save.
Note: If you need results within 24 hours or less, you will need to select your preferred turnaround time under Settings -> Configurations -> Closed captioning.
To see details of a request, cancel it or to submit a redo, log into CaptionSync and go to Captioning -> Status of Submissions. Once captions are successfully associated with an entry, the status displayed next to Captions, in the lower right-hand corner of the player, will be Yes.
Viewing Captions:
- Launch the player by clicking the video, under Captures. Play the video and click CC to watch captions being displayed. The Echo Administrator interface will display captions in the top-center position.
- Click Sharing to copy the public link to the video, under Public links. Click Add Link, copy the URL next to Link and paste it in your browser. During playback, captions are displayed in the bottom-center position.
Additional Notes:
- If you have a Purchase Order account, a valid Purchase Order needs to be set before you make any requests from Echo360. If there isn’t a default Purchase Order set, the most recent valid one will be used. If there aren’t any valid Purchase Orders, all captioning requests will be rejected.
- If you use the CaptionSync Smart Player with your Echo ALP submissions, only the audio version of the media will be available on the player.
- The Echo360 system allows Administrators to make re-submissions for captioning. So if you don't see the Processing captioning status for an entry, go to Captioning -> Status of Submissions, in your CaptionSync account, to confirm if the submission was received by our system, before resubmitting a request.
