CaptionSync allows you to submit URLs to your files for Closed Captioning. This article describes the various Download Status Codes for List Items.
After you submit a list of URLs for captioning/transcription, the media file needs to be downloaded. The status code returned depends upon the protocol and type of download. Success is summarized by the following colors (and mouseover text for screen readers):
-
red – failure downloading
-
green – success downloading
-
grey – download not complete or interim processing required
For HTTP and HTTPS:
-
404 – the requested file was not found
-
200 – the requested file was found OK
-
500 – server error requesting the file
Keep in mind that while the server may return 200, it may also be the case that the file could not be downloaded, in which case ”– No media file” will be appended after the status code (and it will be red).
For FTP:
-
Access denied: 530 – the username/password (if provide) is not authorized to get the requested file
-
RETR response: 550 – the requested file was not found
-
Success – the requested file was found OK
Finally, keep in mind that while the download of the file may occur successfully, it is possible that it is corrupt and/or we were unable to successfully extract any audio. In this case you will be emailed and no submission will be associated with a green status code.
Note that AST cannot be responsible for partial downloads or other networks errors in the process of fetching your video. Hence it is good idea to check the duration of the file once it is downloaded to verify we have the expected duration.
