Adding closed captions to Kaltura media used in your LMS courses is easy with our Kaltura integration. This tutorial shows how to use our Kaltura integration from within Canvas, but the process for instructors is similar for other learning management systems, like Blackboard.
Tutorial:
Requesting captions for a single video:
- From within the course, navigate to Kaltura Media:
- Click on the video you want to caption, then click Actions -> Publish, below the player window. Check the Order Captions box (course galleries where the video is published will already be checked). Finally, click Save.
After a minute or two, the video will move from the "Order Captions" gallery to the "Captions in Process" gallery. Once captions are available, the video will no longer show in the Captions in Process gallery, and users will be able to see the CC icon on the player and toggle captions on and off.
Requesting captioning for several videos at once:
- While logged into Canvas, click on the Courses menu item and select Order Captions (Order Captions is a new "course" that will be made available to you by your Canvas administrators, in addition to other courses that you teach). Next click on the Kaltura Media navigation button.
- Click Add Media:
- You'll be presented with a list of the videos in your Kaltura My Media folder. Check the boxes next to the videos you want to caption, and click Publish.
The videos will move from the "Order Captions" gallery to the "Captions in Process" gallery. Once captions are available they will no longer show in the Captions in Process gallery, and users will be able to see the CC icon on the player and toggle captions on and off.
